Natsume’s Book of Friends Promotes Hot Spring, Fireworks Fest
Nyanko-sensei, the cat from Yuki Midorikawa’s Natsume’s Book of Friends (Natsume Yujin-Cho) manga and anime, appears on promotional materials for the Hitoyoshi Hot Springs. Three posters feature Nyanko-sensei in scenes from hot springs and famous places near Hitoyoshi in the southern Japanese prefecture of Kumamoto. To draw visitors to the hot springs, various Japan Railways stations in Tokyo, Osaka, and elsewhere will display the advertisements beginning August 1.
The director and staff for the Natsume Yujin-Cho anime series visited the cities of Kuma and Hitoyoshi, and the show features actual places from Kumamoto Prefecture. Manga-Based Himizu to Compete at Venice Film Fest
Shion Sono’s live-action film adaptation of Minoru Furuya’s psychological drama manga Himizu will compete at the Venice Film Festival, which runs from August 31 to September 10 in Venice, Italy. Sono (Suicide Circle, Strange Circus) already finishing filming the movie in Ibaraki Prefecture, and his crew is now editing the project for its world premiere at the festival. The director revealed that he had to rewrite the film’s story before shooting, due to the Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster and the resulting nuclear power accident.

Ben-To School Comedy TV Anime’s 1st Promo Streamed
The official website for the television anime adaptation of Asaura’s Ben-To “school serious/gag action” light novel series began streaming the anime’s first promotional video on Friday.
The story revolves around a poor high school student named Yo Sato. Sato goes to the supermarket one day and discovers a bento (boxed meal) on sale at half price. Just as he reaches to grab it, he ends up on the floor unconscious. Sato has just entered the fierce, no-holds-barred “supermarket survival battle” for half-price bento.
The anime will premiere in Japan this fall. Shin Itagaki (Devil May Cry, Mayoi Neko Overrun!) is directing the anime, and he is also responsible for story editing (with Kazuyuki Fudeyasu of Bleach, Monster and Gunslinger Girl)… Continue reading
Arrietty Anime Film’s New U.K. Dub Clip Streamed
The film magazine Empire is streaming a 110-second clip from the British-dubbed version of Studio Ghibli’s Arrietty film, prior to the film’s British opening on Friday.
The British dub is different from the one being prepared for American release next February. The British cast includes Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones/Atonement) as the tiny girl Arrietty; Tom Holland (one of the boy actors who took the lead role in the stage musical version of Billy Elliott) as a human boy, Sho; Geraldine McEwan (Marple) as Haru, a human housekeeper; and Olivia Colman as Arrietty’s mother, Homily. (The four actors can be heard in the clip.)

The game developer Gust announced on Friday that Japan’s Computer Entertainment Rating Organization (CERO) has changed the age rating of Gust’s Meruru no Atorie: Arando no Renkinjutsushi 3 (Atelier Meruru: The Alchemist of Arland 3) role-playing game to B. CERO’s B rating is for ages 12 or higher. The contents description icon that accompanies the game’s rating will now say that the rating is for “sexual” content.
