Anime music video (called AMV) is a combination of music videos made of various smaller clips from one or more than one anime movies or series mounted on a song of the choice of the maker. Such videos are generally made by fans, which are unofficial. Anime Video Making can be referred to a colelction of video game recording gelled with music too.
AMVs are unofficial, that is, they are not prepared or authenticated by musicians, but are composed by fans at their ends by synchronizing clips and music together. AMVs are released over the internet, on various social networking sites, video hosting sites and forums. There are a lot of competitions over the internet for creating the best video too. Both series footage and video game recordings are used to make AMVs. Almost every kind of music is used in these AMVs, as per the need of the video and taste of the maker, ranging from rock, hip hop, J-rock, pop, country, R&B and others. Even many successful singers follow AMVs for their songs. Daft Punk, The Gorilla and Linkin Park are some of such fans. They have made many of their song’s videos in animation. The Gorilla even uses animation in every of its videos to such an extent, that they animate their singers into cartoon characters as well.
AMVs are not professional animated films made as music videos by bands such as Iron Maiden, or short video films as Japanese musical deo Chage or Aska’s “On your mark” by Studio Ghibli. These should not be confused with them. Neither should they be confused with general animation made by fans using videos that were not made in Japan, rather from western cartoons. A distinction should be drawn between AMVs, song videos and fan made videos which are not animated, using cut scenes from television series, movies and other sources.
AMVs made a breakthrough when a video was released from the “Daytona 500″ (1996), from Ghostface Killah, taking clips from the Anime Speed Racer, which was published in 1960s, and shown on TV in the year 1968. The video became very popular and is still one of the most viewed videos. It was even made the official speed racer music video soon after its release. Also, it was the first AMV to be screened on a Television Channel.
The animation designed in AMVs is very sharp and clear. They are packed with action and favorite scenes from the series which usually follow the storyline from the song, played by the characters of an Anime series or more than one series.
Such videos are available all over the internet and it’s a resourceful place to look out for the one you want. There are numerous videos made in a wide range of variety and they are mostly free to download. Apart from that, DVDs are also available which are loaded with several Anime Video Making projects and educative tips.
