Cosplay is increasingly gaining popularity among the international community of anime lovers and now a days followed as a hobby among thousands of people. This has particularly been because of the rise in acceptability of animes in the last 2 decades around the world. The word Cosplay is made up from two English words, “Costume” and “Play” which mean the hobby of making deeply detailed and accurate clothing and costumes of one’s favorite manga and anime virtual characters. It’s a passion to look like the digital hero of one’s anime.
Cosplay has gained a lot of acceptance since the recent years, particularly 1998 and years falling after it. Today Cosplay is practiced in public meetings like nightclubs, parties and video game shows. Cosplay cafes are also being opened now, especially in Akihabara district of Japan.
Anime events around the world nowadays hold Cosplay contests to judge costumes made by participants, especially attention given to details and accuracy followed. The winner of these contests is one who is closest to the depiction of the character they are trying to resemble and this is premise of the concept of Cosplay. The accuracy and attention to details is the essence of the Cosplay. Not just costume, the participant’s hair and skin color are also considered for Cosplay and it should also resemble the character they are following.
To produce a Cosplay Costume, you need a lot of craft skills, art perfection, and a long range of materials which should be elaborate in themselves. The material you use becomes the base for your final costume, so get the most accurate texture and material that is closest to accurate. And because of this, you might need to go for metalwork, leatherwork and other such abilities to ensure that the quality of your cosplay costume is highest possible.
The trends for Cosplay costume keeps on changing pretty frequent. The major effect comes from which anime movie, series or video game is currently on top list in the ranking. People tend to follow the same. Even some non anime sometimes become trendy for Cosplay lovers, like the Harry Potter and Star Wars characters are some of such identities.
Some Cosplay frantics have evolved a new form of Cosplay on new terms. Crossplay, for instance is a subset of cosplay, wherein the anime fan is dressed up as a character of opposite sex from the same anime. Because most animes show characters using a wide range of unique and non gender specific dressing, this concept doesn’t looks that awkward.
Nowadays, Cosplay has got so popular in itself, that now magazines and websites are wholly dedicated to it. These provide data on making costume on your own and materials and steps needed to be followed.
As anime is no where close to getting out of style; Cosplay is here to stay. The anime and cosplay lovers will always pursue their hobby and pass on the beautiful idea to the generations to come.
